Bridging the Gap: Digital Credentials Connect Veterans to Manufacturing Careers

Veterans and manufacturers have a natural fit: both value hard work, discipline, and technical skills. However, translating military experience into civilian terms can be a challenge. The Manufacturing Readiness Project is changing that.

Making Experience Visible: This innovative project launched by the MI uses digital badges to translate military skills into clear, employer-understandable terms. Veterans earn badges based on their occupation and training, showcasing their strengths in areas like safety, quality, and maintenance.

Micro-credentials, Macro Impact: Each badge goes beyond simple certification, offering micro-badges that detail specific achievements within each area. For example, the “general safety” badge might include micro-badges for workplace safety, environmental inspections, and emergency response.

Military to Manufacturing: The project aligns badges with over 300 military occupation codes across all branches, creating a common language for employers. This makes it easier for veterans to showcase their relevant skills and land fulfilling manufacturing careers.

The result? A win-win for veterans and manufacturers. Veterans find rewarding careers that leverage their expertise, while manufacturers build a highly skilled and dedicated workforce.
