Toyota’s Childcare Centers Meet Needs of their Workforce

Childcare is a natural extension of flexibility—and one of the most pressing needs for today’s manufacturing workforce. Addressing this challenge not only supports employees but directly strengthens retention.

Toyota is setting a powerful example of how manufacturers can meet this need. The company recently announced the addition of four new childcare centers at plants in North Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama and West Virginia, all scheduled to open by 2027. These facilities, operated by third-party providers, are designed to align with plant schedules, giving parents peace of mind that their children are cared for while they work. The new centers build on Toyota’s longstanding commitment to childcare, including facilities at its Kentucky and Indiana sites and partnerships with providers like Bright Horizons for backup and referral services.

This investment underscores that child care is more than workplace benefit. Manufacturers that support employees with reliable, flexible childcare solutions reduce absenteeism, improve morale, and create more inclusive workplaces. As MI President Carolyn Lee has emphasized, Toyota’s leadership demonstrates how investing in childcare enables more workers to build long-term careers in manufacturing—helping the industry retain its most valuable asset: its people.
