2025 Women MAKE Awards Reviewer Guide

Thank you for volunteering to participate in the review process for the 2025 Women MAKE Awards. This kit has been designed to introduce you to the review process and provide helpful information to get started.

The scoring criteria is based on Innovation and Leadership (50%) demonstrating significant contributions to the company and/or their division; and Mentorship and Community Impact (50%) recognizing key contributions to the greater community, describing the nominee’s support efforts through mentoring others, advocating for manufacturing careers and/or volunteering.

The award winners will be chosen based on the highest scoring application essays for individual merit and impact. Each application is peer reviewed and scored separately by three reviewers. The average of the scores will determine the rankings of the applications. As such, we encourage you to score fairly using the guidelines in the review kit.

This guide provides information about the review process, scoring criteria, practice scoring and a general timeline of events. I highly encourage you to review the sample essays, which are real applications we have received (name and company changed) and the scores they received. This will give you a sense of what a strong candidate looks like.

If you need additional information or resources, we encourage you to email [email protected]

Peer review is a crucial element to the program’s success and we thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

The Women MAKE America Team

Guidelines for Reviewers.

The Responsibility of the Peer Reviewer
The peer reviewer is responsible for critically reading and evaluating an application in their specified category, and then providing respectful, constructive, and honest feedback on the applicant submission.

Before reviewing, please consider the following:

  • Do you have time to review the application? Finished reviews of an application should be completed by November 3rd, 2024. If you do not think you can complete the review within this timeframe, please let a member of the Women MAKE America team know, so that the application may be reassigned to another reviewer.

The Review
The number of volunteers to review determines how many submissions you will receive. Historically, this is 10-20 applications per reviewer. All submissions are assigned at random.

  • IMPORTANT: The online system is designed to randomly match applications with reviewers; however, if you find that you are assigned an application from your company, you MUST recuse yourself from reviewing the application by selecting the “Abstain from judging” checkbox on the page to avoid biased scoring.

Each reviewer will be assigned to review applications from a single category – Honoree OR Emerging Leader only. Please keep in mind the category of the nominee during your review.

  • Women MAKE Awards Honoree: Nominee is currently employed in manufacturing at any level of the company, from the factory floor to the C-suite.
  • Women MAKE Awards Emerging Leader: Rising female talent currently employed in the manufacturing industry that have made significant contributions and excelled early in their career. An Emerging Leader nominee must be between 18 and 30 years of age as of December 31, 2024.

Year over year, we found some essays offer a greater level of detail than others. As a Reviewer, we ask that you do your best to score each application to the criterion, while maintaining the write up of the Nominee.

Based on application length, we anticipate it will take approximately 10-15 minutes to review each application. We encourage you to review a few applications at a time, taking a few days to complete the review process. All reviews are to be completed by Sunday, November 3, 2024 by 11:59 p.m. ET.

Questions or Concerns?
If for any reason you find you can no longer review application, please contact us and we will re-assign your applications to an alternate Reviewer. If you are able to review more than your assigned applications, please let us know and we will add you to the list should we need to re-assign.

For any questions regarding the review criterion or process, please do not hesitate to contact the Women MAKE America team at [email protected] or via phone at 202-637-3114.
