  • “Many in Gen Z ditch colleges for trade schools. Meet the ‘toolbelt generation’” (NPR): Skilled trade jobs are becoming increasingly popular among young people, especially Gen Z. This is due to several factors, including the high cost of college and the perception that skilled trade jobs are less vulnerable to automation. In addition, vocational schools offer a straight path to well-paying jobs. There is a growing stigma attached to blue-collar work, but many young people are looking past this in order to pursue lucrative careers. With the signing of the infrastructure bill, CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act, there is expected to be a surge in demand for skilled trade workers.

  • “Why More Women Should Consider A Job In The Skilled Trades” (Forbes): Skilled trade jobs, traditionally male-dominated, are seeing a rise in women entering the field. The number of female apprentices has doubled in recent years. These jobs offer high wages, benefits, and advancement opportunities, with a growing demand due to labor shortages. Despite the historical challenges the industry has faced in the past the industry is becoming more welcoming to women. This can be a lucrative career path with a faster training track compared to traditional college programs.
