MI Opens “STEP Ahead” Nominations for 2027 Awards

Nominations for the 2027 STEP Ahead Awards are open for the next class of leaders shaping the industry everywhere from the plant floor to the C-suite.
The awards: Each year, the Manufacturing Institute’s STEP Ahead Awards honor 145 exceptional individuals in manufacturing who are making key breakthroughs, leading high-performing teams, mentoring younger workers and much more. By celebrating their stories, the awards help reshape perceptions of the industry and showcase its wide array of talent.
- STEP Ahead is an initiative of the Manufacturing Institute, the workforce development and education affiliate of the NAM.
Why it matters: By 2033, manufacturers will need to fill 3.8 million positions, but half could go unfilled due to a lack of talent. As manufacturers seek to attract more workers, companies with strong workplace cultures and dynamic leaders have a competitive advantage.
- By ensuring employees have the resources, recognition and opportunities needed to thrive in their careers, STEP Ahead not only supports today’s leaders but also inspires the next generation to pursue careers in manufacturing.
Who to nominate: If you have peers or colleagues who are outstanding in their fields, please nominate them in one of three categories: “Honoree” (established professionals), “Emerging Leader” (rising professionals) or “Champion” (allies).
- Selected awardees will be honored at the STEP Ahead Leadership Conference and Awards Gala in Washington, D.C on April 14–15, 2027, and will join a powerful network of 1,800+ STEP Ahead alumni.
What they’re saying: “Every year, the STEP Ahead Awards remind us just how much talent exists in this industry,” said Lexi Champion, national director of STEP Ahead. “Nominating someone is a powerful way to say, ‘Your work matters, your leadership is seen and this industry is better because of you.’”
Timeline: Nominations close Friday, Oct. 2. See the nomination form and additional details in the 2027 STEP Ahead Nominations Guide.
