Manufacturing Institute promotes workforce development in manufacturing industries.

What’s going on

  • Last week was National Apprenticeship Week!
  • According to ApprenticeshipsUSA, the number of women in registered apprenticeships has increased by 214% over the past decade, while the growth in manufacturing apprenticeships for women has reached 185% during the same period.

Why it matters

  • Manufacturing has traditionally been a male-dominated industry, but the rise in women apprentices demonstrates the success manufacturers have achieved in recruiting female candidates.
  • By fostering opportunities for women, manufacturing not only expands its talent pool, chipping away at the industry’s need for 3.8 million workers by 2033, but also drives innovation and strengthens the industry’s future.

What we’re doing

  • The MI’s Women MAKE America initiative strengthens the modern manufacturing workforce by elevating and highlighting the women leading the industry at every level—from the shop floor to the C-suite.
  • We do so with numerous activities, like the Women MAKE awards and leadership development training, but also ongoing Women Connect regional and virtual sessions.
  • In addition, WMA launched a mentorship program as a pillar of support for its 35×30 campaign that provides woman-woman support within the manufacturing industry.
