Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
The Manufacturing Institute is committed to supporting manufacturers’ efforts to build diverse, equitable and inclusive workplaces and strengthen equal opportunity in the United States. Diversity, equity and inclusion make our workplaces stronger, and they also advance our country’s highest ideals.
Creating diverse, equitable and inclusive workplaces
The Manufacturing Institute’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative aims to make the manufacturing workforce more reflective of our communities. The Manufacturing Institute leads the industry in identifying and addressing systemic barriers to create and sustain a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workforce and equal opportunity in the United States. We work to foster and promote an inclusive culture in manufacturing, supporting companies with their DE&I efforts and amplifying best practices to multiply the impact. Creating a more diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace is the right thing to do—and robust DE&I initiatives will help change the perception of manufacturing and attract and retain a talented workforce.
Uniting Manufacturers
As the 501(c)3 workforce development and education partner of the National Association of Manufacturers, the MI has supported the NAM and its leadership in a bold roadmap to increase equity and parity for underrepresented communities in the United States. Manufacturers across the country are stepping forward to not only be a part of the “Pledge for Action” but also to lay out specific actions they’ll take to support the pledge and achieve key goals to close the opportunity gap and the manufacturing skills gap.
By 2025, manufacturers commit to taking 50,000 tangible actions to increase equity and parity for underrepresented communities, creating 300,000 pathways to job opportunities for Black people and all people of color. In doing so, manufacturing will reflect the diversity of the overall U.S. workforce by 2030.”
