D&I Roundtable: Navigating Microaggressions in the Workplace
RSVP Today
REGISTERAs part of the Manufacturing Institute’s Diversity and Inclusion efforts, we will be hosting a virtual roundtable to share best practices that can be adapted and implemented by your company. Attendees will hear a subject matter expert share real examples of ways organizations can combat and navigate microaggressions in the workplace.
Attendees will hear examples of microaggressions, the impact on the recipients’ mental and physical health, and how to address them. Additionally, the session will provide guidance on the necessary next steps when a person unintentionally commits a microaggression and the pivotal role everyone in an organization plays in cultivating an inclusive work environment.
Microaggressions can be defined as “everyday slights, insults, putdowns, invalidations, and offensive behaviors that people experience in daily interactions with generally well-intentioned individuals who may be unaware that they have engaged in demeaning ways” (UNC School of Medicine). Many times, microaggressions are unintentional or stem from attempts to connect. While seemingly minor, they can have a profound impact on the recipient.
