With a tight labor market, it has become more important for manufacturers to widen the net in their search for applicants to fill the roles they need to meet demand. Adding more diversity to the talent pipeline can be a smart strategy to address the skills needs of employers while also providing opportunities for high-income, high-skilled work to a wider swath of the population.
To support companies with their DE&I efforts and amplify best practices to multiply impact, the MI has built on its inaugural D&I benchmarking survey in October 2021 with a second round of data collection in October and November 2022. Manufacturers around the country were surveyed on current practices and attitudes around DE&I topics such as hiring practices, diversity-related reporting and employee resources, as well as measuring progress from the previous survey. These survey results suggest that while most companies acknowledge the importance of DE&I from a business perspective, more can be done to ensure that all manufacturers are aware that DE&I benefits everyone and can help grow the workforce.
